Report: 11.000 child soldiers abandoned in the DRC
Amnesty International have released a report that highlights research that indicates in Congo at least 11,000 children are still with armed groups or unaccounted for - including the majority of girls taken by armed groups that remain unaccounted for.
UN Council condemns abuse of children in war zones
The U.N. Security Council told nations it was unacceptable to maim, rape and recruit children as soldiers in war zones.
Tthe council called on all nations in conflict to stop the recruitment of children and said the UN should consider putting the fate of children at the center of peacekeeping operations.
During the last decade, 2 million children have been killed during an armed conflict and another 6 million have been disabled or injured, U.N. figures show. ...More....
The 10 most dangerous places on earth for children
Sudan, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo are the three most dangerous places on earth for children, according to AlertNet. This website asked 112 humanitarian experts and journalists to make a list of the most dangerous places for children.
In five of these ten countries War Child is working to contribute to a peaceful future for children, by helping the welfare of the child as well as its environment.
Nearly 120.000 children in Africa being used as child soldiers
In the last three years in Africa around 120.000 children were forced to participate in fighting.
This is the conclusion of a report from the International Coalition against the Use of Child Soldiers. In countries like Uganda, Congo and Burundi tens of thousands of children are being used in the battle.
